A Silhouette Lesson

Silhouette - a likeness cut from dark material
and mounted on a light ground

The moon hung just as it always does allowing it's glow to kiss the corners of the bed we were sound within. I can hear it still... tender toes tipping along wooden planks snug between the hallway walls yet loose enough to make music as they crack.

Those toes stopped just in front of my silhouette. His little voice wobbled as he shared the bad dream. The details raw enough to wake me full and pull him close. Tears wet my cheek as they drip from his. "It's not real sweet boy, it's not real." ...he sniffles.
"Its not?", an honest question just to make sure.

Hesitant to go back in his room... would it return?
"Will the Lord help me Mommy?"

"Yes, he will," I whisper hope.

"Can we pray?" Cut to the heart... why did my boy even have to ask?

We pray there in the glimmer of the moon and then he walked

Those same tiny toes with his boy-framed body of only four years back down that long hall way, into the very place where the bad had just happened.
...He wanted to be there so baby brother didn't sleep alone.
He lived active trust right before my fickle-faith eyes and I learn as
he lay himself down to sleep, facing his dark with his LIGHT.

Isn't that what we are?
Silhouette's being cut in the likeness of Christ through the dark in our lives
so  we may be mounted against His Glory
Bearing light in the dark!

" even the darkness is not dark to you;
the night is bright as the day,
for darkness is as light with you." Psalm 139:12

  1. Awwww. I hate when my kids have nightmares. My daughter asks to pray for no bad dreams just about every night. Beautiful post.

  2. Oh, my goodness, your boys are beautiful! I have two of my own, though it's been a while since they were that small. But I am partial to the boy child. So this story just touches deep places...brings back sweet memories and makes me smile. Thank you, my friend. Your pictures--and your words--surely are light-bearing.
